About
For my final year dissertation, I created FactBlocked, a satire Facebook parody brand and marketing campaign designed to raise awareness about climate misinformation and disinformation on the Facebook platform. I conducted thorough research, which shaped my decision-making throughout the project, ensuring that the messaging and design were informed and effective.
Branding
In designing the brand identity, I used Facebook’s official brand guidelines as a foundational reference to ensure familiarity and authenticity in the parody. The concept was to reimagine the Facebook logo by integrating a padlock with the classic “f” icon. The “f” represents Facebook itself, while the padlock symbolises control and restriction, serving as a metaphor for how the platform manages and sometimes limits information about climate issues.
Website
I designed and coded a dedicated website using HTML, CSS and JavaScript to educate users through clear, engaging content and interactive elements. To visually support the project, I printed my poster designs in silk finish on A2 and A3 formats to minimise light reflection and enhance presentation quality.
Motion Graphic Infographic
I created a motion graphic infographic to showcase the data gathered during the project and highlight the need for addressing climate misinformation. This infographic was designed to communicate complex information clearly and was backed by the extensive research conducted throughout the project.
Photography
I photographed the website content myself, applying my expertise in lighting, composition and storytelling to produce authentic and compelling visuals that strengthen the project’s message.
Key Learnings
This project enhanced my abilities in cohesive branding, web development, motion graphics and multimedia design, while deepening my understanding of communicating complex topics through creative storytelling and data visualisation. It also improved my skills in managing consistent aesthetics across diverse media and reinforced the importance of user engagement in educational projects.
