Community Research Collective Website Overview

Placement Overview

During my placement in collaboration with Ulster University, I worked closely with stakeholders and community partners to deliver a cohesive suite of design solutions for the Community Research Collective, a project aimed at supporting community-led initiatives in Northern Ireland. This experience allowed me to strengthen my skills in design thinking, stakeholder communication and brand development within a real-world context.

Brand and Logo Design

I developed a cohesive brand identity for the Community Research Collective, including a distinct logo that stood out and reflected the diversity of the community partners involved in the project’s creation. The visual identity was carefully crafted to align with the Collective’s values while ensuring consistency across all branded materials and communication channels.

Website Design

I designed and built the official website using Wix, chosen to allow for easy updates and long-term accessibility by the client team. The site features an integrated content management system (CMS), enabling future projects and events to be added with ease. Branding elements such as colour, typography and iconography were thoughtfully incorporated to create a visually engaging and user-friendly experience across devices.

Photography

I photographed the first Community Research Collective event, held on the Magee campus in Derry/Londonderry. I captured a wide range of images featuring both speakers and attendees, which were used across digital platforms to enhance storytelling and promotional content. This experience provided valuable insight into event photography, particularly in terms of composition, timing and working in dynamic environments.

Key Learnings

This placement offered meaningful experience in collaborative design practice. Working directly with stakeholders and the Ulster University team helped me refine my ability to interpret client needs, present ideas confidently and adapt designs based on constructive feedback. I gained hands-on experience across branding, digital design and visual content creation within a professional setting.
